Yule Plates

The most common gifts within the SS after the Yule candle holder were the Yule plate; five white plates with relief, given away by Reichsführer-SS, Heinrich Himmler, as well as four colored plates, dedicated by the head of the Central Office for Economic Administration Oswald Pohl.

A plate with a diameter of only 100 mm and the inscription “Julfest 1937” should be a sample, which would also explain its rarity.

No Yule plate of the Allach porcelain manufacturer is known for the years 1938 and 1939. The series then began in 1940 with a constant plate diameter of around 250 mm. These products were not freely available for sale and were only allowed to be given to the persons designated by Reichsführer of the SS Heinrich Himmler or Oswald Pohl. At Christmas, Himmler gave the Yule plate away to personalities to whom he wanted to express his special favor.

After that there were two categories of Yule plates. On the one hand, plates for each family member were procured, on the other hand, porcelain plates handed over to specially selected people as gifts. In order to have such a porcelain plate for every family member, one had to be in the favor of Heinrich Himmler, who awarded 5 different white plates, or Oswald Pohl, who gave 4 colored plates during the war.
